A. Lawrence Haskins Bio
A. LAWRENCE HASKINS
Host and Executive Producer
THE MAN
A. Lawrence Haskins was born in Tacoma, Washington to the union of Louis Edward and Lucille Haskins.  His father and mother, examples of strong and consistent work ethic, sacrificed continually to take care of their nine children; an undertaking they accomplished with unparalleled success.

Raised with strong spiritual and religious values, Haskins has continually drawn strength from the knowledge that there is a power that exceeds his own, especially in those times when it seemed his flaws would be his undoing.  He remembers fondly the days his mother and father would ready him and his eight siblings to go to church services although Haskins readily admits that at the time it seemed to him to be abject drudgery.  Today, he is ever grateful for the foundation his parents instilled in him.

It was a childhood dream of Haskins to become a neurosurgeon.  The lofty ambition earned him the title of "The Brain" of the Haskins family.  Toward this end, he took it upon himself to read the old medical journals his parents had whenever he had the time.  At the age of eleven he obtained his first employment as a stock boy at a local pharmacy.  While there, he gleaned whatever knowledge he could regarding the pharmaceutical industry and the medical field in general.

It was during his early years that Haskins discovered he had an affinity for writing via a crush he had on one of his elementary school classmates.  He was by far too shy to  actually approach the young damsel so he resorted to writing her short notes which he discreetly placed in her mailbox.  While the missives didn't land him the girl, he did get rave reviews for the writing.

On August 2, 1990, his daughter Sarah was born while he was serving his country in the 1st Battalion 506th Infantry at Camp Greaves South Korea.  Transferred to the Republic of Korea (ROK) at, Camp Greaves was less than 2 miles from the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), and some 38 miles north of Seoul.  While Haskins experienced a distinct sense of pride in serving his country in such a manner, he soon came to the realization that a career in the US Armed Forces was not for him.  He credits the combination of his strong upbringing and his service in the military for developing the character of perseverance and endurance that helped him walk successfully through the darkest days of his life.
THE AUTHOR
In 1998, surrounded by personal turmoil, Haskins started asking himself questions about his experiences and how they had affected his life. He began to wonder in an alternative space and began to think in extremes. He began to explore the worst case scenarios for all kinds of consequential occurrences. And so, in an subconcious effort to re-write his own history, Haskins began to write what would ultimately become The Whisper of Serpents.

Striving for a balanced storytelling style, Haskins also drew inspiration from those he believed would hold an opposing life view to those of his own. He talked to those who, on the surface, seemed of disdainful character and learned that there was always a story behind the story. Through this research, he was able to effectively write the inner moral struggle of some of the more unsavory characters in Serpents.

All in all, Haskins draws inspiration from the fact that wherever the mind can take you, the written word can travel. He believes ardently that one of the greatest tools that any individual can access is the power of expression. And he is grateful that his fans afford him that opportunity.

Show History

The Genesis
ALH Live! began in early 2009 from A. Lawrence Haskins' desire to be a voice to the voiceless. The first such opportunity came when he interviewed college student, and niece, Aprile Lynn Haskins on thecampus of Pacific Lutheran University located in his home state of Washington. He posted the video on A. Lawrence Haskins.com, his official web site at the time, and recieved such positive feedback that he decided to pursue the field at length.

After the PLU interview, his next opportuniuty came when he reconnected with Danielle Enden, a childhood friend who has multiple sclerosis. After hearing her story, Haskins decided it just had to be told in throrough fashion. He interviewed Ms. Enden in her home and on a seperate occasion interviewed her while she walked in the Annual Walk to fight Multiple Sclerosis. The feedback for the Enden interviews was even more overwhelming.

Moving Forward
Since that time, A. Lawrence Haskins and the ALH Live! team have traveled to places like Miami, Los Angeles and New York City to interview entertainers and industry insiders of all sorts. The show has been watched in nearly all 50 states as well as abroad in countries like Canada and India.
